Thursday, December 13, 2007 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Many thanks to everyone who joined us for our 2007 Holiday Party, and a very special thanks to those who helped with the good food, setup and cleanup. Thanks to Phyllis, we benefited from a wonderful venue, and while this year's turnout was down because of conflicts with other events, we alll had a wonderful time. It was great hearing from State Senator Christine Kehoe and all the other electeds and candidates. Next year we'll get the word out earlier in an attempt to make sure other's aren't hosting an event on the same evening. If my chrystal ball is right, we'll be all smiles in December of 2008!

Our second Central Area meeting had a great turnout and a roundtable discussion, and Maggie Kennedy volunteered to serve as our secretary.

We discussed the requirements for voting member eligibility (CC electeds, alternates, associates, as well as requirements for geographic and nongeographic clubs). Our Vice chair may recommend new associate members ($40/yr prorated) to the SDCDP EBd for approval. Recommendations for more members is encouraged. We also reviewed the strategic plan priorities and discussion notes from the SDCDP EBd retreat held on 1/29/07.

Many thanks to South Area's Bob McDaniel, who has agreed to serve as our Central Area Organizer. He will be supporting our our Community Coordinator's GoTeam effort. This is a critical role for our success in reaching our share of the 3,000 precincts in time for the 2008 General Election.

When it comes to finances, Kennan Kaeder and Jesse Durfee discussed the importance of the new DEM (donation each month) program. The formal kickoff will be at the Roosevelt Dinner on March 17th. We hope our members will work hard to find quality silent auction items. Clubs need to encourage members to attend and sign up soon because time is running short. Kennan Kaeder, Gloria Johnson, Pepe Cervantez and Nancy Miller will help serve on Karen Goyette's Finance Committee.

The Media and Communications Committees were discussed. The Media Director, Mike Thaller, hope to have a media representative from every chartered club. Point Loma Club: Bob Wilberg, Mesa Club: Joe Schneider. PB Club: Kennan Kaeder. The Communications Director, Jeri Dilno, will be holding a meeting soon and Kennan Kaeder and Kelly King wish to serve on her committee.

Candidate support is an especially critical part of the SDCDP Strategic Plan. Qualified candidates must be identified for all races & appropriate actions taken for election success.

Many of us will be serving on the Democratic State Central Committee for the next two years, and will serve as delegates at the Democratic State Conventions. Four of our members (Durfee, McKain, Meredith, & Washington) will also serve on the DSCC Executive Board, Since this year's April convention will be held here in San Diego, this is a great opportunity for others to attend as observers or to serve as volunteers.
